Originally designed in Japan, Singapore and South Korea, these round contact lenses were created to replicate the look of wide eyed Japanese anime characters. The contact lenses are about the same size as normal ones, but the whole lens is the colour of the eye’s iris. This covers a lot to the whites within the eye, making the eyes appear larger. This is further accentuated with false eyelashes and makeup.
These round lenses have been popular in Asia for years, however recently a lot more are being sent to western countries. It is rumoured this trend is linked to Lady Gaga’s recent music video for the song ‘Bad Romance’ where she is pictured with extraordinarily large, round eyes. Little do fans realise that much of this effect was most likely computer generated, rather than simply due to round contact lenses.
But what do you think? Would you follow this bizarre fashion?
